About

Amy1-1_edited-1

Amiable Life was created when I inherited a box of my Bubby’s recipes. At the same time, my Grandmother entered into assisted living. The opportunity to cook with either of them was gone. I wish I had spent more time with them in the kitchen.

Now, I’d like to visit your kitchen and learn your signature dish. I want to document it for your kids, and grandkids, and great grandkids. Not just yours, but the next generation of cooks throughout the world. What you do, feeding people and sharing your love of food is important and should be honored.

My PhD is in Educational Psychology, but to pay for grad school I spent many, many years in the food service industry. From catering companies to coffee shops, dishwashing to bartending, I’ve always been surrounded by food and people who love to eat.

Seriously, I’d like to cook with you and write about it on this blog. If you, or someone you know would like to be featured on Amiable Life, please email me at amiablelife@gmail.com

I promise, I’m a good eater.

–Amy Leis Hocking, PhD

This website is dedicated to the memory of my Bubby who cooked tongue and my Grandmother who cooked meatloaf.

This is an amazing web site! Thanks Amy for making this more than just another place to go for cooking ideas. You really demonstrate the love and memories associated with our food! :)

Hi Amy – your website speaks to my heart. My as of this date unpublished cookbook “Cooking With Clyde” is dedicated to my Italian mother “Toni” – who was my primary influence in the kitchen. I have always equated food with love, and believe that cooking for others is one of the best ways to demonstrate your love. I am glad that I have discovered you!

Dearest Amy (or should I say Dr. Hocking, gulp!) -
You MUST have more recipes or food ideas on your blog relating to bacon. Everything is better with bacon! I have a few recipes in the making that I hope will increase bacon’s exposure beyond the preferred breakfast meat. Would you ever consider coming to Colorado visit so that we might test and perfect some of these innovations??

Dearest Amy,
Thank you very much for the blog about my spinach pies. Now I’m getting orders! Please let me know when I can cook for you, I have plenty of receipes and we could have a ball just cooking, talking and eating!
Ciao!
